These paintings I named the ‘White Whispers’ series. ‘White’, because of the use of white paint, white that has been tinted with colours to create various kinds of white. The marks in he work are half erased or covered up. The meaning they may have conveyed, reduced to a faint whisper. White as a colour has many emotional references for me and I believe others feel the same. Besides emanating ideas such as purity, freedom, safety, cleanliness, innocence, youth and perfection, simplicity and freshness, white can also symbolise ideas such as concealment, secrecy endurance, the idea of hiding ones feelings – telling yourself that everything’s fine. The last two paintings depart a little within the series. I find with my art that there is an evolution going on and phases morph into new ones. This is exciting to me and I keep the work coming to generate new phases.
